Habitat Conditions and Tree Species Shape Liana Distribution in a Subtropical Forest

چکیده
Lianas are woody plants that require external support to reach the canopy. They expanding in forests worldwide, possibly due climate change and forest disturbance. Most studies on lianas have been conducted tropical forests. less explored subtropical We aimed document density diversity of lianas, test how habitat condition distribution tree species affect distributions based data from a fully mapped 20 ha plot China. analyzed association by fitting generalized linear model with family-level liana abundance as response variable family identity, its interaction terms topographic variables (slope, convexity, elevation, sin(aspect)), explanatory variables. focused spatial associations three 82 ?100 individuals using pair correlation function redundancy analysis. found total 1305 falling into 26 species, 16 families, plot. accounted for 1.5% individuals, 11.7% 0.4% basal area There were large variations respect four among contrasting former findings suggesting favor dry hot habitats. The most abundant showed non-random they tended positively associate similar but negatively different species. explained 21.8% variance distribution. Our study suggested both conditions composition intervene determining heterogeneity may be mechanism maintenance. provides basic understanding this contributes future planning conservation under change.

Partitioning Tree Species Diversity and Developmental Changes in Habitat Associations in a Subtropical Evergreen Broadleaf Secondary Forest in Southern China
The classical environmental control model assumes that species diversity is primarily determined by environmental conditions (e.g., microclimate and soil) on the local scale. This assumption has been challenged by the neutral theory that assumes that the maintenance of biodiversity mainly depends on the ecological drift and dispersal limitation. Understanding the mechanisms that maintain biodiv...
متن کاملDisturbance and clonal reproduction determine liana distribution and maintain liana diversity in a tropical forest.
Negative density dependence (NDD) and habitat specialization have received strong empirical support as mechanisms that explain tree species diversity maintenance and distribution in tropical forests. In contrast, disturbance appears to play only a minor role. Previous studies have rarely examined the relative strengths of these diversity maintenance mechanisms concurrently, and few studies have...
متن کاملSoil phosphorus and disturbance influence liana communities in a subtropical montane forest
Questions: What are the effects of soil, topography, treefall gaps, tree species composition, and tree density on liana species composition and total liana abundance? Location: A 6-ha permanent plot in a subtropical montane forest in northwest Argentina. Methods:Multiple regressions were used to quantify associations of liana species composition and total liana abundance with edaphic, disturban...
متن کاملContrasting Regeneration Strategies in Climax and Long-Lived Pioneer Tree Species in a Subtropical Forest
1: This study investigated 15 coexisting dominant species in a humid subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest in southwest China, consisting of long-lived pioneers and climax species occurring in natural and disturbed regimes. The authors hypothesized that there would be non-tradeoff scaling relationships between sprouting and seed size among species, with the aim of uncovering the ecological ...
متن کاملTree species, tree genotypes and tree genotypic diversity levels affect microbe-mediated soil ecosystem functions in a subtropical forest
Tree species identity and tree genotypes contribute to the shaping of soil microbial communities. However, knowledge about how these two factors influence soil ecosystem functions is still lacking. Furthermore, in forest ecosystems tree genotypes co-occur and interact with each other, thus the effects of tree genotypic diversity on soil ecosystem functions merit attention. Here we investigated ...
